The visit types a provider can open an encounter note on.

The note editor asks which kind of visit this is before any words are typed, and the answer selects which note templates are offered. The chosen code travels on the note in the composition-note-setup extension, so a draft reopens on the footing it was left on.

Not Encounter.class, and not an appointment reason. Encounter.class says where care happened and is bound to a published v3 system; a visit type says what the provider is about to write about. Two notes in the same setting routinely carry different visit types, and a visit type asserts nothing about the setting.

Minted locally because it describes the authoring surface, not medicine. No published system names the picker entry a provider chose before writing, and coding one as a SNOMED procedure would assert a clinical meaning it does not have.

Content is complete: this system lists all of its own codes. The binding from composition-note-setup is extensible, so a visit type this guide has not named yet is still conformant on the wire -- the application's catalogue grows on its own cadence, and this system catching up is a documentation lag rather than a break.
